GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Under direct supervision, performs various routine and accommodative tasks for patients receiving any procedure in the scope of GI Lab services, including adolescents, adult and geriatric patients. Performs tasks in accordance with established policies, standard nursing practices, and special instructions from professional nursing personnel. Contributes to the overall function of the unit by assisting with clerical duties, housekeeping chores, and nursing errands as designated. Assists with front office tasks as directed by the Endoscopy Center Manager.RESPONSIBILITIES:Keep patients safe from fallsKeep hallways clear and free of debris and equipmentReport patient findings/observations unsafe situations to Registered Nurse in chargeTransport patients in a timely mannerMaintain pleasant environment by restocking supplies, maintaining equipment, and promoting a neat appearance to the areaAssist in the retrieval of necessary patient information, equipment, and suppliesDemonstrate and maintain knowledge of, and follows infection control procedures according to policySupport and uphold established policies, procedures, objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental infection control, and codes and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agenciesTransports patients to and from GI LabMust be able to break down, flag and de flag charts. Ensure all paper work needed in billing office is sent out in a timely manner.Coordinates patient activities with front office staff as directed by nursing staffTreats patients, visitors, and other staff with respect and dignityMaintains confidentiality of patient and personnel informationREQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCEHigh school graduate or the equivalent or Certified Medical Assistant. Successful completion of Heartsaver Course. Able to follow written and verbal direction involving policy and procedure pertinent to patient care. Willingness to expand range of skills to include minor procedures and data entry. Communicate effectively with patient, family, and professional staff. Professional demeanor and appearance is a must. Must be 18 or older.PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDSMental demands include the ability to handle several directives, set priorities, composure and mental stability to adapt to stressful situations. Physical demands include full range of body motion including handling and lifting of patients, pushing, pulling and reaching. Ability to stand,walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time, lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 25 pounds. Requires working under stressful conditions. The floors are hard and evenly surfaced. Safety guidelines must be observed in the use of medical equipment.
