Job summary

UnityPoint Health in Des Moines, IA is seeking a Transporter to support safe and timely movement of patients, equipment, and essential items across the hospital. You will work closely with clinical teams to ensure patient comfort and safety while maintaining a respectful environment.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED and at least six months of customer service experience. BCLS certification and MOAB and state-specific trainings are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
• Six (6) months of customer service experience required.
• Previous patient transport experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, timely transportation for patients throughout the hospital using wheelchairs and carts.
• Verify patient identity, communicate clearly about the transport process, and support patient comfort and safety.
• Respond promptly to transport requests, relay important patient information to care teams, and assist during urgent situations, including emergency response activities.
• Follow safe patient handling practices and identify patient-specific needs to ensure quality care.
• Transport equipment and supplies between departments, maintain and sanitize transport equipment, and report maintenance concerns.
• Accurately document patient movement in electronic systems while adhering to HIPAA, infection prevention, OSHA, and hospital safety standards.
• Help maintain a clean, organized environment and demonstrate professionalism in every interaction.

Experience:

• Basic Life Support (BCLS) through the American Heart Association required.
• Management of Aggressive Behavior through the Management of Aggressive Behavior Training International Inc (MOAB) preferred.
• IA Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing carerequired.
• IL Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing carerequired.
• IA Adult Dependent Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing carerequired.
• IL Adult Dependent Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing carerequired.
