POSITION SUMMARY

This role involves training new and current bus drivers, both on the road and in the classroom. The goal is to ensure drivers are fully certified, have the necessary endorsements, and comply with all local, state, and federal regulations. Additionally, Transportation Training Instructors often perform the duties of a school bus driver.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

• Valid Georgia Commercial Driver’s License with S and P endorsements

WORK EXPERIENCE:

• Federal Motor Carriers Training Provider Database knowledge preferred
• Clearing House knowledge preferred
• Minimum three (3) years’ experience in driver training

Required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment; using pertinent software applications; operating commercial vehicle and light duty vehicles; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

Knowledge-based Competencies

Required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: safe driving practices; provisions of the motor vehicle code and the education code applicable to the operation of vehicles transporting school students; state licensing requirements.

Ability-based Competencies

Required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of processes. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with similar types of data; and utilize a variety of types of job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is significant. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES (Generally ranges from 5-10 bullet points)

• Conducts Classroom and behind-the-wheel training to develop and reinforce bus driver skills for both new and current drivers..
• Performs school bus driver duties to meet district transportation needs.
• Trains new and current drivers on bus operations and safety procedures.
• Evaluates driver performance for certification renewal and maintain necessary records.
• Rides along with drivers to assess training needs and driver proficiency.
• Responds to bus accidents as needed and assists with accident evaluations.
• Administers driving tests and provides retraining as necessary.
• Participates in regular in-service training sessions to promote a safety-focused culture.
• Maintain and audit driver records to ensure compliance with Georgia Department of Driver Services, Department of Education, and CCSD Transportation standards.
• Provide exceptional customer service and administrative support, including filing, recordkeeping, and answering phones.
• Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
