Job summary

The Muscogee County School District is seeking a Transportation Third Party Tester to provide training for district personnel and serve as a liaison among Transportation Department staff. This role ensures safety requirements and procedures are followed in transportation of students.

Responsibilities include administering driver proficiency tests, planning safety activities, maintaining training materials, and coordinating communications.

Qualifications

• Educational level: High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License required.
• Georgia Department of Driver’s License; 3rd party certification required; State or National Driver Training Certification required.
• Familiar with transportation software terminology and two-way radio communications.
• Ability to perform routine physical activities.

Responsibilities

• Daily attendance and punctuality are required for the goals of the work unit.
• Administers annual driver proficiency tests per state statutes and rules.
• Assess bus stop locations for hazardous conditions to ensure safety.
• Assist with in-service meetings, safety events and road testing requirements.
• Assist with annual bus evacuation drills to meet DOT guidelines.
• Assist with phone, radio, camera, and dispatch communications and operations.
• Maintain knowledge of federal, state, local driving laws and school policies.
• Monitor buses and drivers to ensure safe driving practices.
• Prepare methods of instruction for Safe Rider Practices.
• Respond to and investigate accidents involving transportation employees.

SALARY: $19.44 hourly

REPORTS TO: Transportation Safety and Training Supervisor

Primary Function

The job of Transportation Third Party Tester is done for the purpose/s of providing training to Muscogee County School District personnel as outlined in the Department of Education Transportation Student and Pupil requirements. This position will act as liaison between Transportation Department employees to include Bus Driver Trainees, Bus Drivers, Bus Monitors, Activity Drivers and other personnel to communicate and coordinate information on behalf of the Department of Education and Department of Transportation to ensure the completion of safety requirements dealing with the transport of students.

Requirements

• 1. Educational Level: High School Diploma or GED required
• 2. Requirement: Valid Commercial Driver’s License Required
• 3. Certifications/Licenses: Georgia Department of Driver’s License, 3rd Party Certification REQUIRED. State or National Level Driver Training Certification REQUIRED.
• 4. Physical Activities: Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities
• 5. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Written and oral communication; Problem solving skills; multi-task; familiarity with common terminology relating to transportation related software and processes; two-way radio communication;

Essential Duties

• 1. Daily attendance and punctuality are required for the purpose of ensuring the goals of the work unit can be met.
• 2. Administers annual driver proficiency tests as prescribed by Georgia State Statutes and Rules for the purpose of ensuring drivers are in accordance with state and federal training policies and procedures.
• 3. Assess, as needed, bus stop locations for hazardous and unsafe conditions for the purpose of ensuring safety for loading and unloading students.
• 4. Assists with planning and participation with in-service meetings, community safety events and the state road testing requirements for the purpose of ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
• 5. Assists, as needed, with annual bus evacuation drills for the purpose of ensuring Department of Transportation guidelines are being met.
• 6. Assists, as needed, with phone, radio, camera, and dispatch communications and operations for the purpose of ensuring continued operations.
• 7. Maintains ongoing knowledge of all federal, state, local driving and student transportation laws, statutes and rules, as well as school board policies for the purpose of ensuring the district is in compliance.
• 8. Maintains and organizes driver training and accident files, training and instructional material and State Department of Education reports for the purpose of maintaining compliance.
• 9. Monitors school buses and drivers at regular intervals for the purpose of ensuring safe driving practices and proper student management.
• 10. Prepares methods of instruction and communication of Safe Rider Practices to students for the purpose of meeting safety requirements.
• 11. Provides necessary training and instruction in post-accident situations for the purpose of increasing safety awareness.
• 12. Provides training in lift bus operation, wheelchair tie-downs, car seat and harness attachments for the purpose of student safety.
• 13. Responds to and investigates accidents involving MCSD transportation employees for the purpose of ensuring reporting procedures are within school guidelines.
• 14. Transports students over scheduled routes to or from assigned education center or special excursions; ensuring vehicle operation is in safe operating condition for the purpose of ensuring safety of students during transport, loading and unloading from buses.
• 15. Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient, effective functioning of the work unit.
