Starting wage is $26.43 per hour, with Step One at $27.82, Step Two at $30.44, and Step Three at $33.43. Preference may be given to veterans and those with related experience.

Qualifications

  • Good knowledge of CAD modeling and computer-aided drafting.
  • Familiarity with GIS data and maps.
  • Minimum 6 months of work experience using construction plans and related materials.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Assess contractor activities including inspection, proper installation sequencing, schedule compliance, and contract requirements.
  • Inspect and oversee construction to ensure conformance with plans and specs.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of work, materials, and costs.
  • Coordinate and supervise technical engineering work in the field or office.
  • Compute and verify quantities, materials, costs, and final contractor payments.
  • Assist licensed engineers in developing and designing highway construction projects.
  • Review and draft construction plans under supervision of a licensed engineer.

The Idaho Transportation Department is hiring a T ransportation Technician Senior for ourDistrict 3 located in Boise, Idaho . This is anentry-level position,the first step in the Transportation Technician Engineering Career Path series. The Transportation Technician Senior Horizontal Career Path consists of 3 steps. Wages increase after the successful completion of each step in the career path as outlined below:

  • Starting wage: $26.43
  • Completion of Step One: $27.82
  • Completion of Step Two: $30.44
  • Completion of Step Three: $33.43

Note: Candidates with 5 years of relevant and equivalent documented experience of at least 5 years OR an associate's degree in Civil Applied Technology may be eligible to start at Step One.

Example of Duties

  • Good knowledge of CADD -Modeling, computer-aided Drafting
  • Assess contractor activities including inspection, proper installation sequencing, schedule compliance, and contract requirements.
  • Inspect, observe, and ensure a construction project is constructed in accordance with contract plans and specifications
  • Maintain accurate daily record of the work (labor, equipment, materials, quantities)
  • Coordinate, perform, and/or supervise technical engineering work in the field, or office.
  • Compute, check, and verify quantities, materials, costs, and final contractor payments.
  • Assist licensed engineers in developing and designing highway construction projects.
  • Review and draft construction plans under the supervision of a licensed engineer.

Minimum Qualifications

Good knowledge of:

  • Computer systems and applications used in engineering/construction and maintenance.

To qualify, applicants must have at least 6 months of work experience in the following:

  • Using construction plans, blueprints, drawings, specifications, maps, charts, graphs, manuals, schematics, and/or Geographical Information Systems (GIS) data.
  • Providing direction, training, or assistance to others on engineering, design, construction, roadway maintenance projects, or other applicable work assignments.
  • Identifying and organizing materials, tools, or equipment for construction, roadway maintenance, engineering, design projects or other applicable assignments.

Licensure

  • Valid driver's license.
