Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson is seeking a Transportation Technician II to apply standard inspection procedures for highway and bridge projects in the Robbinsville, North Carolina area, ensuring quality, safety and conformance to plans.

Qualifications include an associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Survey Technology and 2+ years of related experience; NCDOT certifications are preferred. This is a full-time need with field-based work and potential for travel within NC.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or related curriculum.
  • Two years of progressive technician level experience.
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans.
  • NCDOT certifications including Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing preferred.
  • 4+ years of construction inspection experience on transportation projects preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspection of contractor’s operations on transportation projects to verify conformance to plans and specifications
  • Perform routine material testing
  • Measure and track quantities of pay items
  • Gather and maintain record documents including material certifications, testing reports, and inspector’s daily diaries
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

JMT's Construction Management Team is seeking a Transportation Technician II to apply standard inspection procedures on ongoing activities, in the Robbinsville, North Carolina area, during and after construction for quality, safety and conformance to plans and specifications.

Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

This position is available in multiple locations within North Carolina and can be discussed with the hiring manager during an interview.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform inspection of contractor’s operations on a variety of transportation projects including roadway and bridge construction to verify conformance to plans and specifications
  • Perform routine material testing
  • Measure and track quantities of pay items
  • Gather and maintain record documents including material certifications, testing reports, and inspector’s daily diaries

Required Skills
  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
Required Experience
  • Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans
  • NCDOT certifications including Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing preferred
  • 4+ years of construction inspection experience on transportation projects preferred

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field. Ability to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction. Must be able to perform moderate physical activity including but not limited to walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work nights and weekends as required.
