Transportation Technician I

Construction Management/Inspection - Transportation

Our Construction Management Team seeks a Transportation Technician I to perform standard inspection procedures during and after construction to ensure quality, safety, and conformance to plans and specifications. Opportunities available statewide. This position is not eligible for employer sponsorship except for TN visa classification.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Inspect contractor operations on transportation projects, including roadway and bridge construction, to verify conformance to plans and specifications.
• Conduct routine material testing.
• Measure and track quantities of pay items.
• Maintain records including material certifications, testing reports, and daily diaries.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills

• Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening.

Required Experience

• Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
• Active driver's license.
• NCDOT certifications such as Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing are preferred.
• Construction inspection experience on NCDOT projects is preferred.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field, requiring safety awareness in outdoor environments with hazards such as heights, highway traffic, and rough terrain. Moderate physical activity is required, including walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Night and weekend work may be necessary.
