POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides support to the Transportation Manager/Director in supervising the activities related to delivery and backhauls. This includes training and supervising transportation department associates, ensuring compliance with government regulations, and promoting safety and security within the department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Supervises the daily work and safety of Transportation Associates, including adherence to SOPs, Food Safety Standards, planned routes, and customer service.
  2. Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., DOT, OSHA), and maintains accurate electronic logs.
  3. Manages labor hours and supplies within budget; prepares work schedules, including extra shifts as needed.
  4. Assists with training new associates and cross-training existing staff.
  5. Supervises the proper use of company assets, coordinates repairs, and manages delivery functions and productivity reporting.
  6. Interprets, trains, and enforces company policies, including food safety, DOT, and record-keeping protocols.
  7. Collaborates with Warehouse and Customer Service teams to resolve issues; visits customer locations and addresses delivery challenges.
  8. Maintains positive relations through regular meetings, open communication, and morale monitoring.
  9. Works with Safety Manager on training, safety inspections, accident investigations, and corrective actions.
  10. Handles staff management duties such as hiring, performance reviews, discipline, and termination.
  11. Works assigned schedules, exhibits regular attendance, and performs duties of supervised associates as needed.
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or GED; 2-4 years of transportation experience or equivalent.
  • Preferred: College degree in Business Management, Supply Chain, or related field.
CERTIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Class A CDL preferred but not required.
  • DOT regulations training certificate preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of FMCSA, DOT regulations, SOPs, and software tools.
  • Skill in decision-making and leadership.
  • Ability to lead discussions, solve problems, interpret policies, and work under pressure.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, using hands, reaching, and occasional lifting up to 100 pounds and pushing/pulling up to 350 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Exposure to various environmental conditions, mechanical parts, and potential travel. Non-traditional hours may be required.
