Job summary

Ferraro Foods in Whitestown, IN is seeking a Transportation Supervisor to oversee regional transportation operations, including routing, dispatching, and training of new drivers. Ensure DOT, state/federal, and OSHA compliance for all driving staff.

Day-to-day duties include morning dispatch, on-call after hours, coordinating between Transportation and Sales, troubleshooting routes, and coaching drivers to improve performance. Strong communication and organizational skills required.

Job Description Supervises the transportation operations for the regional location (Delco Foods in Whitestown, IN) , including but not limited to routing, dispatching, and the training and development of new driver hires. The Transportation Supervisor must ensure all drivers adhere to D.O.T. regulations, state and federal laws, and OSHA requirements, as they pertain to transportation.

Job Description Supervises the transportation operations for the regional location (Delco Foods in Whitestown, IN) , including but not limited to routing, dispatching, and the training and development of new driver hires. The Transportation Supervisor must ensure all drivers adhere to D.O.T. regulations, state and federal laws, and OSHA requirements, as they pertain to transportation.

DISPATCH
  • Possess working knowledge of morning dispatch and procedures
  • Generally M-F 6A-3P and “on-call” via a company provided phone “after-hours” for call-offs and/or emergencies
  • Answer phone calls from customers, customer service, drivers and sales representatives regarding delivery times and any issues with deliveries.
  • Act as intermediary between Transportation and Sales
  • Handle call outs from drivers and/or driver helpers, providing alternate solutions for deliveries and communicate absences and vacation requests with the Transportation Manager, Human Resources, and Payroll in a timely fashion.
  • Troubleshoot routing and delivery issues and follow-up with drivers thru-out the day.
  • Provide communications to drivers and helpers
ROUTING
  • Analyze standard routes on an ongoing basis to determine more efficient routes and instruct routers to make any necessary changes
  • Review driver feedback on routes to make any feasible changes to the order/sequence of current routes.
  • Supervise and audit maintenance in Target
  • Supervise and work with our night shift to ensure truck maximization during the planning process in terms of weight and cube
Other Duties
  • Coach drivers and helpers, as needed, to improve performance and adherence to company policies.
  • Counsel drivers and helpers when they do not adhere to all company policy (Attendance, Insubordination, etc) in the form of verbal and written disciplinary write ups
  • Responsible for identifying and recommending changes in departmental policies and practices.
  • Continuous contact with customers or vendors requiring provision of services, explanations, decisions or the obtaining of routine approvals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Report driver accidents/incidents to the DOT Safety Manager and Human Resources
  • Report injuries to the DOT Safety Manager and Human Resources
  • Help cover the will-call window which could include, picking, invoicing, and collecting payment for walk in customers
  • Handle customer/driver returns expeditiously including restock, pictures, and code information
  • Assure that driver return sheets are neat and accurate and contain all the pertinent information and that all drivers clean out their trailers daily
