Position Summary
As the Transportation Office Supervisor, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day transportation office operations, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of goods, maintaining compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and company regulations, and providing supervision, direction and support to transportation personnel. You will oversee payroll, dispatch and routing functions while ensuring proper staffing, scheduling, payroll administration, onboarding, training, and compliance. This position will be responsible for coordinating transportation operations from dispatch through completion of deliveries and will work closely with Operations, Warehouse, Customer Service and other departments to resolve issues and maintain a high level of service.
Position Responsibilities
- Supervises transportation associates to include, but not limited to: staffing, scheduling, training, coaching, performance management and problem resolution. Provides direction and support to transportation personnel to ensure daily operational requirements are met.
- Oversees daily dispatch operations, including driver assignments, equipment assignments, route coverage, call-offs, delays, service issues and real-time operational adjustments. Ensures deliveries and pickups are completed in a safe, efficient and timely manner.
- Oversees transportation routing operations, including the development, maintenance and optimization of delivery routes. Ensures routes are cost effective, compliant with DOT guidelines and designed to meet customer delivery requirements while maintaining appropriate driver hours, equipment utilization and service levels.
- Maintains routing and transportation management systems to ensure accurate and up-to-date information, including standard routes, customer delivery requirements, delivery days, time windows, service times, route start times, assigned drivers, equipment, restrictions and capacities.
- Reviews previous-day transportation and routing results and makes necessary adjustments to improve route efficiency, service levels, operating costs and driver productivity.
- Oversees driver payroll processes, including reviewing driver hours, trip information, time records, mileage and other supporting documentation. Ensures payroll information is accurate, complete and submitted within established deadlines. Identifies and resolves payroll discrepancies as needed.
- Coordinates and oversees the transportation onboarding process for new transportation employees. Ensures required documentation, training, system access, safety requirements and compliance documentation are completed prior to employees performing assigned duties independently.
- Ensures drivers and transportation associates are compliant with DOT, company and safety requirements.
- Ensures accurate completion and maintenance of transportation and driver-related paperwork and electronic records, including trip reports, DOT logs, Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR), and other required documentation.
- Coordinates with management regarding vehicle and equipment needs and ensures transportation equipment issues are communicated and addressed appropriately.
- Monitors transportation performance, including delivery service, route efficiency, labor utilization, operating costs and other applicable transportation KPIs. Provides reporting and recommendations to management.
- Works closely with Transportation/Operations Management, Warehouse, Customer Service and other departments to identify and resolve operational issues and ensure effective communication throughout the transportation operation.
- Assists with developing and implementing transportation procedures and processes that improve efficiency, reduce operating costs, maintain compliance and support customer service expectations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent Experience
2-4 years transportation or related experience including knowledge of DOT and safety regulations, along with
experience in operation of computerized fleet management systems
