About the Role

A leading food distribution organization is seeking a Transportation Supervisor to oversee day-to-day transportation operations, driver scheduling, routing, fleet performance, safety, and regulatory compliance.

This role supervises transportation associates, coordinates delivery schedules and route changes, monitors operational KPIs, and works closely with logistics, warehouse, safety, and other cross-functional teams to ensure efficient and reliable transportation operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise daily transportation activities including dispatching, routing, equipment maintenance, and product/equipment security.


• Assign and update driver schedules and coordinate delivery changes based on available resources and shipment volume.


• Optimize routes for customer deliveries and backhauls to maximize efficiency and cost effectiveness.


• Partner with transportation, logistics, warehouse, account management, and other teams to resolve operational issues quickly.


• Monitor driver schedules, hours, breaks, idle time, additional stops, and total working hours.


• Review fleet onboard computer information and driver logs to support fleet performance.


• Monitor compliance with FMCSA, CSA, DOT, licensing, physical certification, and required screening processes.


• Review and approve driver paperwork, logs, files, hours reporting, payroll submissions, and other transportation documentation.


• Track transportation KPIs and analyze performance, delivery schedules, and route efficiency.


• Address customer delivery concerns and ensure timely resolution.


• Lead pre-shift meetings and communicate operational, safety, HR, and transportation updates to associates.


• Manage staffing, training, performance management, career development, and departmental goals.


• Ensure compliance with safety, sanitation, security, and distribution regulations.


• Coordinate equipment maintenance and address operational or workplace safety issues.


• Assist with safety meetings, investigations, and labor agreement administration where required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.


• 3+ years of transportation and/or supply chain operations experience, including direct transportation experience.


• 1+ year of supervisory or team lead experience preferred.


• Knowledge of transportation and logistics operations, including:


• FMCSA/CSA compliance


• DOT requirements


• Dispatching and routing


• Local transportation regulations


• Experience with transportation onboarding software required; Cadec preferred.


• Familiarity with dispatch or routing platforms such as CAMS or JDA preferred.


• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.


• Strong leadership, communication, organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.


• Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work effectively with management and frontline associates.


• Ability to work flexible hours and participate in evening/weekend on-call coverage when operational issues arise.


• Must be authorized to work in the US; visa sponsorship is not available.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and twisting.


• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds with assistance as needed.


• Work may take place in a warehouse environment with varying temperatures and humidity.


• Ability to work extended 8-10 hour shifts, weekends, holidays, nights, and overtime as required.
