Siemens Smart Infrastructure (SI) is seeking a Transportation Specialist for their Alpharetta, GA location, responsible for coordinating over-dimensional freight from factory to jobsite. This role offers a hybrid work model with 2-3 days in the office. The specialist will drive improvements in transportation and warehousing solutions, supporting SI business units, locations, divisions, and cross-functional partners. Additionally, the role involves compiling and analyzing metrics to foster continuous improvement across divisions, enabling better logistics decisions through data-driven insights.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with proposal management, project management, and carriers/forwarders to determine logistics scope and coordinate transportation for projects.
  • Evaluate carrier/forwarder bids to select the best quality and cost-effective options supporting proposals and execution plans.
  • Provide transportation estimates for project bids based on equipment sourcing, shipping volumes, schedules, and delivery terms.
  • Manage milestones to ensure timely project delivery and proactively identify actions to keep projects on track.
  • Include logistics clarifications in proposals and contracts.
  • Develop tools and reports (e.g., rate comparison, lane analysis, contract compliance, performance metrics) to manage carriers and ensure contract adherence.
  • Establish standards for quality, delivery times, and shipment lead-times to ensure on-time product delivery.
  • Lead operational quarterly reviews with carriers and 3PLs to ensure service continuity and quality.
  • Evaluate external service providers' performance using applicable metrics to ensure quality and efficiency.
  • Report project plans, progress, and results to SI management.
  • Create import/export documentation.
  • Review and process freight claims.
  • Maintain flexibility and willingness for domestic travel (minimum 10-15%).
Competencies:
  • Ocean/Air logistics experience – 5-10 years in international freight forwarding or carrier roles.
  • Knowledge of import/export documentation – including trade agreements, letters of credit, manifests, ocean bills of lading.
  • Problem-solving skills to identify root causes and develop technical solutions.
  • Project management capabilities, with or without formal training.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for clear information dissemination.
Qualifications:
Basic:
  • 4-year bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management or related field.
  • 5-10 years of logistics experience.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and project management tools.
  • Experience with various transportation modes and international documentation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in teams, facilitating ideas and consensus.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Preferred:
  • APICS (CSCP/CPIM), Lean, Six Sigma certifications.
  • Experience with SAP, Salesforce, Power Apps.

Siemens offers competitive benefits, and the salary range for this role is $65,660 - $112,560, depending on experience and location.
