Summary
This entry-level position in our river transportation business involves gaining knowledge of the facility, performing tasks efficiently, and seeking process improvements. Dock workers are responsible for safely and efficiently cleaning barges and performing various assigned duties.
Essential Job Functions:
- Work in a fast-paced environment to prepare barges for cleaning, maintain dock areas and equipment, and perform housekeeping tasks.
- Assist in training new Dock Workers
- Participate in toolbox meetings
- Follow SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures)
- Execute work plans as scheduled
- Maintain and monitor dock equipment
- Collaborate with peers and management to improve operations and foster teamwork
- Communicate safety, quality, and maintenance issues effectively
- Identify and mitigate safety and environmental hazards
- Use computer systems for data entry related to safety, sanitation, and equipment
- Adhere to ADM's safety and environmental policies, aiming for a zero-injury culture
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment
- Attend promptly and regularly
- Operate equipment such as trucks, rail cars, forklifts, and conveyors for loadout and unloading
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older
- Eligible to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship
- Effective communication skills in English (verbal and written)
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Experience in production or military environment preferred
On-the-Job Training:
- Complete ADM safety, food safety, quality, and environmental training
- Participate in operational training, including equipment handling (e.g., forklifts, reach lifts)
Working Conditions:
- Ambient, non-air-conditioned environment with seasonal temperature variations
- Dust, moisture, odor, noise (may exceed 85 decibels), requiring PPE
- Required PPE includes uniforms, hardhats, earplugs, safety glasses, hair restraints, steel-toed shoes, gloves, and safety harnesses as needed
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to move, ascend/descend stairs, lift up to 55 pounds, and work at heights or in confined spaces
- Willingness to wear respirators and traverse distances during shifts
Work Hours:
- Overtime, weekends, holidays, and shift flexibility required
- 8-hour rotating shifts, typically Monday-Friday, 7 am to 3:30 pm, with some Saturdays
