Job description

TOC (Transportation Operation Center) is the central command and control center for ‘Transportation Execution’ across the Amazon Supply Chain network supporting multiple geographies like NA, India, and EU. It ensures hassle-free, timely pick-up and delivery of freight from vendors to Amazon fulfillment centers (FC) and from Amazon FCs to carrier hubs. In case of any exceptions, TOC steps in to resolve the issue and keeps all stakeholders informed of the proceedings. Along with this tactical problem solving, TOC is also tasked with understanding trends in network exceptions and then automating processes or proposing process changes to streamline operations. This involves network monitoring and significant analysis of network data.
Overall, TOC plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth functioning of Amazon transportation and thereby has a direct impact on Amazon’s ability to serve its customers on time.
Purview of a Trans Ops Specialist
A Trans Ops Specialist at TOC facilitates the flow of information between different stakeholders (Trans Carriers/Hubs/Warehouses) and resolves potential issues impacting customer experience and business continuity. The role spans two verticals – Inbound and Outbound operations.
Inbound Operations focus on Vendor/Carrier/FC relationships, ensuring freight is picked up on time and delivered at FC as per schedule. The Trans Ops Specialist addresses issues during the lifecycle from pick-up to delivery.
Outbound Operations involve FC/Carrier/Carrier Hub relationships, ensuring trucks leave the FC to deliver customer orders as promised. The specialist addresses issues during freight transit from FC to customer premises.
A Trans Ops Specialist provides timely resolution by researching and querying internal tools and making real-time decisions. The candidate should understand logistics requirements, analyze data, notice trends, and drive customer experience without compromising on time. Basic logistics knowledge and clear communication skills are essential. The ability to ideate and drive process improvements is also important.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Communicating with external customers (Carriers, Vendors/Suppliers) and internal customers (Retail, Finance, Software Support, Fulfillment Centers)
  • Pulling data from databases (Excel, Access, SQL, or other systems) for ad hoc reporting and analysis
  • Developing and understanding performance metrics to drive results
  • Understanding business and functional requirements for Amazon’s software systems
  • Assessing business impact of trends and making informed decisions
  • Escalating issues systematically and following through on resolutions
  • Working within time constraints to meet critical needs
  • Communicating findings effectively in written and verbal formats
  • Providing real-time customer experience in a 24*7 environment

A typical day involves managing these responsibilities in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications include:
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative/technical field such as computer science, engineering, or statistics
  • Experience with Excel
  • Experience with SQL
