Job summary

Stantec Consulting International Ltd. invites qualified students to join our Transportation Engineering Internship in North Dakota.

You will support roadway design, structural engineering, and field construction activities during the Summer 2027 internship, with opportunities to develop CAD drawings and reports. The role emphasizes teamwork, communication, and basic civil design concepts, with exposure to Bentley MicroStation/Open Roads Designer and AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s or master’s engineering program.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Experience with Bentley MicroStation/Open Roads Designer or AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support roadway design and structural engineering groups.
  • Support roadway construction engineering groups in the field.
  • Conduct basic calculations and assist in developing engineer's estimates.
  • Assist team in preparing CAD drawings and reports.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

This is a paid internship with full-time hours during the Summer of 2027. This is an office position; limited teleworking (if any) is anticipated.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Support our roadway design and structural engineering groups

  • Support our roadway construction engineering groups in the field

  • Conduct basic calculations and assist in developing engineer's estimates

  • Assist team in preparing CAD drawings and reports

  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • A passion for transportation engineering planning, design, and construction

  • Ability to work with a team on multiple projects and project-related tasks

  • Excellent oral, written, and graphic communication skills

  • Basic understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of civil design

Education and Experience
  • Education: Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s degree or master’s degree engineering program #Student

  • Previous experience in Microsoft products such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel

  • Experience with Bentley MicroStation/Open Roads Designer or AutoCAD/Civil 3D is a plus

Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Transparency

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Benefits Summary

Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
