Job summary

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • Coursework in civil planning, design, construction, infrastructure, hydrology, surveying or construction management is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with completing civil components of a wide range of projects in a design team.
  • Perform construction observation for project compliance and documentation of activities.
  • Support construction administration tasks including reporting, material measurement, testing coordination, and shop drawing reviews.
  • Prepare detailed reports as required.
  • Assist with surveying/staking as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with project stakeholders including clients and contractors.

Your Opportunity

Stantec is now accepting applications for Summer 2027 Civil Engineering interns within our Community Development Group in multiple locations throughout Minnesota (Twin Cities, St. Cloud, Rochester).

As an intern, you will work in a team environment gaining practical on‑the‑job experience while having exposure to community development projects. Most of your time will be spent working outside on construction activities. Projects may include urban design and planning, roadways, park and recreation design, multi‑use trail and pathway design, traffic engineering, landscape architecture, assessment and rehabilitation, infrastructure design, water and wastewater conveyance, and storm water management. Your Key Responsibilities
  • Use technical and communication abilities to assist with completing the civil component of a wide variety of projects in a dynamic design team setting.

  • Perform construction observation for project compliance with project documents and engineering principles.

  • Perform construction administration duties including documenting construction activities, measuring materials, coordinating materials testing, reviewing shop drawings, and providing general project oversight.

  • Complete detailed reports as required.

  • Assist with construction surveying/staking as needed.

  • Communicate effectively with construction and engineering staff, clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders.

  • Office duties if available may include assisting with CAD drafting and design, and preparation of plans and specifications, reports, and other project deliverables.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Requires understanding of basic AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and general surveying.

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Strong interest in serving municipalities with their infrastructure needs.

  • Good organizational skills

  • Ability to multi‑task, prioritize, take direction, and work independently.

  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions and be physically capable of navigating rugged terrain for the purpose of performing the duties outlined above.

  • Must have reliable transportation to go to and from job sites, good driving record, and valid driver’s license.

  • You will be reimbursed for business‑related travel and expenses.

Education and Experience
  • In progress toward earning a bachelor’s degree (minimum) in civil engineering, structural engineering, construction engineering, construction management GIS/Survey, or related field from a post‑secondary institution. #Student

  • Specific coursework or exposure to one or more of the following is desired: civil engineering planning, design, construction, infrastructure, hydrology, environmental science, surveying and construction management.

Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk.

Pay Range
  • $23.47 - $34.50 Hourly

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Benefits Summary: Regular full‑time and part‑time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short‑term/long‑term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full‑time and part‑time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
