Job summary

A leading engineering firm in Charlotte, NC, is seeking a Transportation Designer to provide engineering design and project assistance for roadway projects. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and 0-3 years of roadway engineering experience. This role requires effective collaboration with project managers to ensure project specifications are met on time and within budget.

Qualifications

  • 0-3 years of previous roadway engineering experience.
  • EI certification a plus (at minimum-FE exam should be scheduled).
  • Must be willing to travel on occasion.
  • Knowledge of Open Roads and MicroStation/GEOPAK/Corridor Modeling a plus.
  • Experience with NCDOT design standards preferred.
  • Basic Microsoft Excel & Word skills.
  • Willing to travel on occasion; valid driver’s license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering design, calculations, CAD support.
  • Plan, schedule, and execute highway design projects.
  • Work closely with engineer/project managers to ensure drawing accuracy.
  • Coordinate with engineers and project managers to obtain information and ensure drawings are accurate and complete.

Responsibilities

Transportation (Roadway) Designer in our Charlotte, NC office. The Transportation Designer will provide engineering design, calculations, CAD support, and project assistance to the Transportation Design Group. The ideal candidate will design and complete assigned projects on time, within budget, and of high quality. The most frequent and essential work activities include:

  • Use project specifications, detailed drawings, and verbal instructions to complete assignments.
  • Performs calculations, prepares material and specifications and provides preliminary sketches and notes for drawings.
  • Plans, schedules, and executes all phases of a highway design project.
  • Performs preliminary, right-of-way and final engineering design.
  • Works closely with engineer/project managers to obtain project information, recommend changes and ensure drawings are accurate and complete.

  • Must be able to carry, lift and push/pull up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Weekend and overtime work and/or overnight work and travel may be required.
  • Additional physical duties may be required as necessary.
