Job summary

Tetra Tech is seeking a Transportation Roadway Design Intern to join our Brighton, MI team. You will gain hands-on experience on real projects, supporting roadways and traffic systems design under the guidance of senior engineers.

You will learn and apply tools like MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD or Civil 3D while developing skills in calculations, reports, and project support. This internship offers mentorship, growth opportunities, and exposure to diverse transportation design projects.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with transportation focus.
• Interest in roadway and transportation design.
• Familiarity with MS Word and Excel.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Willingness to travel up to 15%.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design of local roadways, highways, multi-use paths and traffic control systems.
• Support development of roadway, signing, pavement marking and traffic signal plans.
• Prepare calculations, estimates and design reports.
• Conduct site visits with senior engineers to support the design process.
• Learn roadway modeling tools such as MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD or Civil 3D.

Your Role:

As a Transportation Roadway Design Intern, you will gain hands‑on experience working alongside our team of recognized industry experts. You’ll contribute to real projects while building your technical skills and exploring the many aspects of roadway and transportation design.

Assist with the design of local roadways, highways, multi‑use paths, and traffic control systems

Support development of roadway, signing, pavement marking, and traffic signal plans

Help prepare calculations, estimates, and design reports

Conduct site visits with senior engineers to support the design process

Learn and apply roadway modeling tools such as MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, or Civil 3D

Qualifications:

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (transportation focus is a plus)

Strong interest in roadway and transportation design

Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel

Exposure to MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, or Civil 3D is helpful but not required

Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record

Availability to travel periodically (up to 15%) is a plus
