Job summary

Tetra Tech is seeking Engineering Interns and Early Career Engineers to launch their careers across infrastructure, engineering, and consulting disciplines. This opportunity targets current students, upcoming graduates, and recent graduates who want hands-on experience alongside experienced engineers, designers, and project managers.

You may work on water, transportation, construction, facilities, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and environmental projects, applying classroom knowledge

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline.
• Interest in developing a career in engineering, infrastructure, construction, or consulting.
• Basic understanding of engineering principles, calculations, technical problem-solving, or construction practices.
• Exposure to engineering software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, MicroStation, GIS, BIM, hydraulic modeling tools, structural analysis software, or similar programs is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to organize assignments, manage priorities, and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning, analysis, and design of engineering and infrastructure projects.
• Support projects involving water and wastewater treatment facilities, pipelines, pump stations, utilities, roadways, transportation systems, site development, buildings, and public facilities.
• Perform engineering calculations and technical analyses under the guidance of experienced engineers.
• Assist with the preparation of engineering drawings, plans, specifications, reports, and technical documentation.
• Support civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, transportation, water resources, or environmental design activities.
• Use engineering and design software to support calculations, drawings, models, and project deliverables.
• Assist with quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, schedules, and other construction-related project activities.
• Participate in field investigations, site visits, inspections, and data collection.
• Support construction-phase activities, including field observations, documentation, RFIs, submittals, and coordination with project teams.
• Evaluate existing infrastructure, facilities, and site conditions.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, construction professionals, project managers, and other technical disciplines.
• Apply engineering standards, codes, regulations, and industry practices to project assignments.
• Participate in technical training, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.

• Previous internship, co‑op, research, laboratory, design team, or academic project experience is a plus.


• Exposure to engineering software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, MicroStation, GIS, BIM, hydraulic modeling tools, structural analysis software, or similar programs is a plus.


• Strong written and verbal communication skills.


• Ability to organize assignments, manage priorities, and meet deadlines.


• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary project team.


• Interest in continued professional development and, where applicable, pursuing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification, and future professional licensure.


• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed for certain positions.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform office‑based work involving extended periods of sitting and computer use.


• Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, stoop, or navigate active project and construction sites.


• Ability to safely access project sites that may include uneven terrain, stairs, ladders, or active construction areas.


• Ability to occasionally lift and carry equipment, plans, or materials typically weighing up to 25 pounds.


• Ability to travel locally to client, project, and field locations as required.

This position will primarily work in a professional office environment with regular use of computers and standard office equipment.

Periodic fieldwork and site visits may be required. Field assignments may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions, uneven terrain, construction activities, operating water or wastewater facilities, noise, dust, odors, and other conditions typical of infrastructure and construction environments.

Appropriate personal protective equipment will be provided and required when working in designated field or construction environments.

• The position may require occasional local travel to project sites, client facilities, or other Tetra Tech locations.
