Salary: $67,852 - $118,741

The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced and proactive Transportation Project Management Engineer III to join our Project Management team delivering high-quality transportation projects from concept to construction.

In this role, you will:

  • Work closely with all NCDOT Divisions, discipline leads and other internal and external stakeholders to understand project needs and challenges, remove obstacles, solve problems, and lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ensure high-quality projects are delivered on time and budget.
  • Develop strong multidisciplinary relationships.
  • Independently coordinate project delivery activities across multiple disciplines throughout the preconstruction phase (including environmental studies, design, special provisions, quantities, and final plans).
  • Proactively manage scope, schedules, budgets, and risk for State Transportation Improvement (STIP) and Non-STIP projects.
  • Oversee private engineering firms on external projects.
  • Ensure that overall deliverables quality meets NCDOT high expectations.
  • Provide design support during the Construction phase.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with staff, project team members, and stakeholders to provide updates, discuss and resolve issues, and drive progress in achieving project milestones.

What You Bring

  • Experience overseeing/managing complex transportation projects and developing/managing project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and project risks.
  • Professional engineering principles and practices of civil engineering knowledge related to Highway Design with an emphasis on project planning, environmental studies and analysis, project design, construction, and maintenance methods related to the Project Delivery Process.
  • Management experience leading teams applying engineering principles to difficult/complex environmental and design situations, making sound recommendations and decisions, and providing design guidance.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and fostering communications with senior leadership, stakeholders, the public, and among project team members.
  • Knowledge of Professional Engineering contracts and the ability to understand scoping, estimating, and negotiating contracts.

Note
We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
