Job summary

Otak is seeking a Transportation Project Engineer/Project Manager to shape multimodal transportation in Colorado. You will lead design for municipal roadways, trails, underpasses and bridges, coordinating with teams to deliver projects on schedule and budget.

The role requires a BSCE, 5–8 years of transportation experience, and a PE license or imminent eligibility. Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation OpenRoads is essential, with strong regulatory knowledge and client collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (BSCE) from an accredited program is required.
• 5–8 years of civil engineering experience focused on transportation, public infrastructure and multimodal design.
• Some project management experience or ability to manage budgets, schedules and tasks.
• Experience with technical writing and report reviews.
• Colorado Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within six months.

• Perform design services for grading, drainage, utilities and erosion control per regulations.
• Prepare construction plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation OpenRoads.

• Assist in proposals, scope, schedule and budget; support client relationships.
• Provide construction support services and participate in BD activities.

Job description

As a Transportation Project Engineer/Project Manager you can apply your design skills to various projects including municipal roadways, recreational trails, unique bike‑pedestrian underpasses, vehicular and pedestrian bridges, feasibility studies and utility projects. With a significant focus on active transportation initiatives this role allows you to make a meaningful impact on the design and development of multimodal and active transportation infrastructure in Colorado. How You’ll Contribute

• Manage tasks and teams associated with transportation projects
• Perform design services related to roadway and site layout grading, drainage, utilities and erosion control in conformance with local state and federal regulations
• Prepare construction plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Microstation OpenRoads
• Prepare specifications and cost estimates
• Plan and coordinate projects with limited supervision
• Assist in assigning duties and schedules to team members
• Participate in preparing proposals and project scope, schedule and budget
• Participate in Business Development based on strong client relationships
• Provide construction support services

This position may be based out of our Louisville or Denver office.

The Strengths You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (BSCE) from an accredited four‑year college or university or equivalent education is required
• Minimum of 5 to 8 years of experience as a Civil Engineer emphasizing transportation, public infrastructure, multimodal design, drainage, utilities, site development and civic projects for municipal and private clients
• Some project management experience is preferred or experience managing budgets, schedules and assigning tasks or collaborating with other team members
• Experience with technical writing and reviewing reports
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Colorado or the ability to obtain licensure within six months of hire
• Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Microstation OpenRoads
• Knowledge of local and state regulations and codes including AASHTO, CDOT, NACTO and MUTCD design guidelines
• Ability to work collaboratively within a creative professional team environment
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Some experience with business development and client relationships is preferred
