Job summary

STV is seeking a Transportation Project Engineer to lead technical design activities for roadway, utility, and site projects in the Midwest. The role involves managing plans, specs, calculations, and reports to meet client expectations and coordinating with outside consultants.

The candidate will mentor staff, develop technical documents, and engage with clients, stakeholders, and field personnel. A PE license in IL or the ability to obtain it within a year is preferred, with a strong background

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Illinois PE license or ability to obtain within one year; out-of-state licenses a plus.
• Minimum five years of experience in civil design.
• Experience with IDOT, Tollway, City of Chicago, utilities or municipalities.
• Proficiency in MicroStation, GeoPak, ProjectWise, OpenRoads; strong communication skills.

Job description

Transportation Project Engineer

Primary focus of this role is on project delivery and executing technical design tasks for various infrastructure improvement projects, including roadway, utility, and/or site design. In this role, the individual is expected to lead the technical aspects for design projects, including plans, specifications, calculations, exhibits, forms, and reports that meet clients' expectations.

STV leads the engineering design for complex, multi-disciplinary projects that include roadway, utility, structural, rail, electrical, mechanical, and other related elements for a range of clients throughout the Midwest. Our team's collaborative approach to projects leads to successfully delivering comprehensive and high-quality plans to our clients.

Qualifications

• Minimum of Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, or related field
• Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) License or ability to obtain within one (1) year; PE licenses in other states is a plus
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience with civil design
• Experience with Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Illinois Tollway, City of Chicago, utility agencies, and/or municipalities
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microstation, GeoPak, ProjectWise, and OpenRoads
• Good oral and written communication skills

Essential Functions

• Lead the technical tasks associated with Phase 1 and Phase 2 transportation projects
• Provide guidance and mentorship to technical engineering staff across the team
• Execute technical tasks including developing technical reports, plans, specifications, supporting calculations, and client required forms
• Ability to meet with client and associated stakeholders and perform site visits in the field as necessary
• Develop and/or provide guidance on producing technical reports, calculations, memos, and forms related to a specific transportation subject matter (i.e. geometrics, drainage, modeling, permitting, traffic studies, bicycle paths, traffic signals, etc.)
• Coordinate with outside consultants (sub or prime) regarding project specific tasks, schedule, progress and reviews
• Use Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, including Microstation, GeoPak, and/or OpenRoads, to produce plans, details, alternatives, and exhibits for transportation improvement projects
• Willingness and ability to lead or assist in the development of design templates to streamline plan production and improve quality across the team
• Assist Project Managers and/or Group Leads to plan resources and coordinate internal workshare opportunities
• Attend industry workshops, seminars, trainings, and conferences

Compensation Range

$130,962.60 - $149,671.54
