Job summary

A leading civil engineering firm located in Prairieville, Louisiana, is seeking a Transportation Project Designer to provide technical design support for transportation infrastructure projects including roadways and bridges. This role involves preparing detailed drawings, collaborating with project teams, and ensuring adherence to quality and budget requirements. The ideal candidate should have an associate degree and 5–15 years of relevant experience, along with software proficiency in CAD tools such as MicroStation and InRoads.

Qualifications

Job description

Position Purpose

The Transportation Project Designer provides technical design support to the Project Manager by preparing layouts, detailed drawings, diagrams, and related project documentation using specialized design software. This role contributes to the development of project deliverables, assists with technical tasks, and collaborates with project team members to support successful project execution.

Job Description

Designers in this role primarily work on transportation infrastructure projects, including roadways, roundabouts, bridges, and related civil infrastructure improvements. The position supports the planning, design, and production of construction plans for projects that enhance community transportation systems and safety.

Your Opportunity
Support Technical Tasks on Projects
  • Review, analyze, and process raw data collected from field operations and surveys.
  • Assist with the design and preparation of plans for roadway corridors, intersections, roundabouts, bridge approaches, and related transportation infrastructure.
  • Prepare designs, drawings, reports, and calculations for projects within a specific market.
  • Support plan production including alignments, profiles, cross-sections, drainage layouts, and typical roadway details.
Develop Project Deliverables
  • Prepare project deliverables as directed by the Project Manager and in accordance with firm and client‑specific standards.
  • Assist with design solutions and modifications to meet project scope and requirements.
Collaborate with Project Team Members
  • Work closely with project managers, senior designers, technicians, and other team members to support project completion.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to technicians on design software and workflows when needed.
  • Assist other teams or departments with technical, field, or project‑related tasks as requested.
Task, Quality, Schedule, and Budget Adherence
  • Support the project team in meeting quality, schedule, and budget requirements.
  • Assist in completing project tasks according to established timelines.
  • Maintain current knowledge of equipment, techniques, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in training and professional development activities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Associate degree from an accredited college or vocational‑technical school in a related field plus approximately 5–15 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with CAD and market‑specific design software; MicroStation and InRoads experience preferred, OpenRoads experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with transportation design standards and agency requirements (DOT, municipal, or parish standards).
  • Working knowledge of agency requirements within the applicable market.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and related software.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate technical work.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
