Job summary

CDM Smith’s Transportation Advisory Services team is seeking a recent graduate in communications, political science, public policy, or related field to help identify, analyze, and solve public policy issues and funding challenges for transportation projects.

You will work with senior policy and communications specialists on policy proposals, stakeholder outreach, bill research, and presenting findings to client groups and public bodies. Domestic/international travel up to 10% may be required.

Qualifications

• Understanding of top transportation public policy challenges at federal, state, and local levels.
• Strong analytical skills with stakeholder and political awareness for revenue scenarios.
• Experience with cost analysis of revenue collection systems.
• Familiarity with transportation technology and innovation trends.
• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct policy analysis and review of statutes and regulations related to transportation funding.
• Analyze stakeholders, policy positions, influences, priorities, and authorities.
• Design and conduct stakeholder and community input to policy proposals.
• Research, track, and analyze bills and related legislation.
• Support design and setup of commissions, task forces, and working groups for policy issues.
• Coordinate input from task forces and stakeholders on policy proposals.
• Draft policy proposals and solutions addressing client objectives and constraints.
• Author papers and memoranda framing policy issues with trade-offs.
• Draft bill language aligning with client priorities.
• Present findings and recommendations to working groups, committees, and public bodies.
