Job summary

The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County's Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure seeks a Planning Manager 1 to lead transportation planning initiatives, supervise professional staff, and drive the translation of plans into actionable projects and investments.

You will oversee long-range and multimodal planning efforts, coordinate with Metro departments and partner agencies, and provide direction on analyses, recommendations, and implementation strategies

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and six (6) years of professional transportation planning experience.
• For this specific position, substitution will not be considered.
• Employees must register for the Metro Human Resources Supervisory Training Program prior to completion of the probationary period or work test and must complete all coursework within a 12-month period.

Responsibilities

• Manages assigned transportation planning functions and related work programs.
• Supervises professional planning staff, including assigning work, monitoring progress, reviewing work products, supporting staff development, and evaluating performance.
• Leads major transportation planning efforts and provides direction and oversight to plans and studies managed by staff and consultants.
• Oversees development of planning analyses, alternatives, recommendations, priorities, and implementation strategies.
• Helps translate adopted plans and studies into implementable projects, programs, and capital priorities.
• Manages consultant-supported planning efforts, including development of scopes of work and oversight of schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
• Coordinates planning activities with other NDOT functions, Metro departments, regional and state agencies, and other partners.
• Participates in the development of and recommends planning policies, guidance, and approaches that support NDOT's transportation goals.
• Represents Transportation Planning on behalf of NDOT in meetings with stakeholders, boards and commissions, elected officials, partner agencies, and the public.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
