Job summary

FOCUS Consulting in Midvale, UT is seeking a Transportation PE / EIT / Staff Engineer to join our team. The role requires eligibility for a Professional Engineer license within one year and involves delivering transportation projects for Utah and surrounding states.

You will collaborate with Project Managers to produce construction drawings, meet regulatory standards, and provide excellent client service. The position offers full-time hours, a pathway to PE certification, and opportunities in

Qualifications

  • Completed civil engineering degree with Transportation emphasis preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a PE license within one year.
  • Experience with Utah Department of Transportation and knowledge of standards.
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, problem-solving, time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication with all levels of personnel, including clients.
  • Willingness to be a team player and support project needs; may perform administrative duties.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with Project Managers and Professional Engineers to provide engineering support and produce high-quality drawings.
  • Collaborate to design infrastructure improvements such as roadways and drainage systems while adhering to standards.
  • Create design deliverables that meet UDOT/municipal codes and requirements.
  • Maintain QA/QC through the review process to ensure accuracy and project success.
  • Advocate for clients to navigate approvals with strong customer service.
  • Participate in department goals, reviews, and team development.

Transportation PE / EIT / Staff Engineer

Requires a Professional Engineering License, or the ability to obtain one within one year.

Salary: $70,000-$100,000+ per year, or competitive with the market based on experience.

Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday, no weekends.

What YOU Can Bring To The Table
  • Experience working with the Utah Department of Transportation and good knowledge of standards and requirements
  • Completed civil engineering degree, preferably with an emphasis on Transportation
  • Solid analytical, conceptual, problem‑solving, time management, and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills to interface with all levels of personnel, including leadership, as well as clients
  • Eagerness to work and thrive in a team environment
  • Willingness to be a team player and to contribute to project needs; may be required to perform administrative‑type duties such as copying and collating plans and preparing/delivering submittals
  • Ability to self‑motivate and work productively without supervision
  • Capacity to work under pressure to meet client‑imposed project deadlines
  • Prior experience with drafting or design with MicroStation or OpenRoads in fields of transportation engineering is preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office, BlueBeam, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Openness to follow company CAD drafting standards and procedures

Responsibilities
  • Build relationships with Project Managers and Professional Engineers to provide engineering support and produce construction drawings and designs of the utmost quality
  • Utilize great communication and teamwork to track information required to produce deliverables and assist with the design of proposed infrastructure improvements such as roadway and storm drainage systems
  • Create design deliverables that meet UDOT and/or municipal codes and requirements
  • By holding yourself to high standards and employing extreme ownership, work within our defined QA/QC review process to ensure accuracy and project success
  • Be the advocate for clients to help them efficiently navigate municipality approval, with a commitment to excellent customer service
  • Participate in department goal setting and accomplishments, book reviews, and personal and team development
Day‑to‑Day of Transportation Engineering

Develop and optimize roadways, intersections, transit systems, and other transportation infrastructure. Use CAD software to draft layouts and ensure designs are safe, efficient, and sustainable. Study traffic patterns, congestion issues, and user behavior to propose improvements. Analyze data on vehicle flow, pedestrian movement, and accident reports to enhance transportation safety and efficiency. Meet and/or communicate with government agencies, city planners, and construction teams to align design objectives with community needs and regulatory standards.
