Job summary

Blount County Board of Education is seeking a Parts Specialist to manage ordering, receiving, and organizing vehicle parts and supplies for the transportation fleet. The role includes maintaining fuel records, reviewing work orders, and communicating with vendors and transportation staff to support day-to-day operations.

The position requires a valid Alabama bus driver license or ability to obtain within six months, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work with limited supervision.

Qualifications

• Current Alabama School Bus Driver license, or the ability to obtain the required license within six months of the hire date.
• Ability to successfully pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and work effectively with limited supervision.
• Must obtain a criminal history background clearance and meet the suitability criteria for employment under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.

Responsibilities

• Order and receive parts and supplies for the transportation fleet.
• Maintain an accurate and organized parts inventory.
• Maintain accurate vehicle fuel records.
• Review vehicle work orders and ensure accurate accounting of parts used.
• Communicate effectively with vendors, drivers, employees, and members of the public as necessary to complete assigned duties.
• Respond to emergency calls as needed.
• Drive school bus routes as needed to cover driver shortages, absences, or other staffing needs.
• Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
• Follow safety precautions of the specific trades and practice standard safety procedures at all time.
• Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
• Engages in personal professional growth, ongoing training, and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.
• Engages in required orientations, trainings, safety instruction, and meetings as required for effective job performance and/or advancement.
• Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
• Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
• Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws/regulations.
• All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor or supervisor’s designee.

Terms of employment:240-days

Daily work schedule will be determined by supervisor or his/her designee for the necessary operations of the school system. Work assignments and schedules are subject to change.

Salary:

Approved salary schedule for Bus Shop and Maintenance Personnel is located on the Human Resources webpage. Salary for personnel is set at appropriate step and rank on adopted salary schedule based on skill level and experience. Annual salary is based on a 40-hour week.

Evaluation:

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the support personnel evaluation system and board policy.
