This position is responsible for highway maintenance tasks such as repairing guardrails, cutting trees/brush, patching roads, picking litter, ditching, and more. During winter, duties include plowing and salting, with potential overtime. Assistance with vehicle and equipment maintenance may also be required.

Responsibilities include exposure to outdoor weather, potential for heavy snowfall or emergencies, working outside of scheduled hours, and using tools and lifting materials. Hazards include working near heavy equipment, hazardous materials, debris, and moving traffic. Participation in a drug and alcohol-testing program is required. Overtime, especially in winter, is a condition of employment.
One year of experience in construction, equipment operation, or manual labor, including either one season of snowplow operation with wings or six months of operating medium/heavy equipment (graders, excavators, backhoes).
OR
Successful completion of probation as a Transportation Operations Technician I and possession of a Class A CDL with tanker endorsement.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Class B CDL required. Must reside near the worksite. Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement required within six months. Complete VTTC coursework within one year or be enrolled. Non-probationary employees must obtain CDL within six months.
