Ballard Community School District in Huxley, Iowa seeks a Transportation Administrative Assistant to serve as the primary operations liaison for the Transportation Director, drivers, families, and staff, coordinating bus routing, route coverage, and event transportation.

You will maintain administrative records, communicate updates across platforms, handle scheduling, time logs, and customer service, while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with district policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Proficiency with word processing, database, spreadsheet, email, and calendar software applications.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including proper usage of grammar and punctuation.
• Exceptional personal integrity, maturity, and collaborative skills when interacting with students, staff, and parents.
• Valid driver's license for necessary travel between district facilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily administrative and operational support to the Transportation Director and department staff.
• Serve as the primary communication hub for bus drivers, district personnel, parents, and community members.
• Support student bus routing using software to maintain accurate records.
• Communicate route updates and schedule changes to families and staff.
• Schedule and coordinate transportation for athletic events, field trips, and activities.
• Coordinate drivers and substitutes to ensure routes are staffed.
• Operate telephone systems and two-way radios to dispatch instructions.
• Maintain attendance sheets and staff time records per district procedures.
• Manage department files, rosters, and compliance logs.
• Greet visitors and provide responsive customer service.
