The Transportation Ministry Driver provides safe, courteous, and reliable transportation for authorized church members, guests, seniors, families, children, and ministry participants traveling to worship services, church activities, and approved events. The driver operates only vehicles and routes assigned by Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church (SMBC) and places passenger safety above schedule or convenience.
This position represents SMBC in direct service to the congregation and community. The employee is expected to respect and support SMBC's Christian mission and conduct all work in a professional, patient, and ministry-minded manner consistent with church policies.
Before driving and periodically thereafter, the employee must provide a current license and any required endorsements or certificates; authorize motor-vehicle-record reviews; complete job-related background screening with required notices and authorization; meet SMBC insurer requirements; and complete required safety training. When applicable to the assigned vehicle or operation, the driver must participate in federally or state-required testing, medical certification, recordkeeping, and qualification processes. The employee must promptly disclose any citation, arrest involving driving, crash, license suspension or restriction, medical limitation affecting safe operation, or other change that may affect eligibility to drive for SMBC.
The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Work may involve prolonged sitting and driving; entering and exiting vehicles; turning the head and body to observe traffic and passengers; operating doors, controls, lifts, and emergency equipment; standing, walking, bending, reaching, and assisting with light vehicle supplies. The employee must be able to see and hear conditions necessary for safe driving and passenger supervision, consistent with applicable licensing standards. Specific lifting or passenger-assistance expectations must be confirmed by SMBC based on the assigned vehicle, equipment, staffing, and insurer guidance.
Drivers are scheduled according to ministry needs and are not guaranteed a minimum number of trips or hours. Employees must accurately record all compensable time, including required inspections, fueling, cleaning, waiting, training, meetings, and post-trip duties, and must obtain approval before working outside the assigned schedule. All compensable time will be paid in accordance with applicable law and SMBC policy.
SMBC provides equal employment opportunity in accordance with applicable law. Employment decisions will not be based on race, color, national origin, sex, pregnancy, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or any other status protected by applicable law. As a religious organization, SMBC reserves rights available under applicable law to make employment decisions based on religion and alignment with its religious mission when lawful. SMBC will consider reasonable accommodations for qualified applicants and employees as required by applicable law, provided the person can safely perform the position's essential functions.
Employment with SMBC is at will to the extent permitted by Texas law. This means either the employee or SMBC may end the employment relationship at any time, with or without notice or cause, subject to applicable law. This job description is not an employment contract and does not alter the at-will relationship. It summarizes the position's primary responsibilities and may be revised as ministry needs, assigned vehicles, insurance requirements, policies, or legal requirements change.
