Job summary

Iowa Select Farms is looking for a full-time Transportation Mechanic to perform maintenance and repair of our transportation fleet and equipment. Responsibilities include servicing Class 8 trucks, welding, and maintaining workplace cleanliness.

The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of applied experience in a diesel shop and be compliant with safety protocols. This position requires a valid driver's license and may involve local travel.

Qualifications

REPORTS TO: Transportation Maintenance Supervisor

Purpose Of Position

Conduct service and repair of transportation fleet, equipment, and facilities.

Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities

• Vehicle maintenance/repair on but not limited to:
  • Class 8 trucks
  • Medium and light duty trucks
  • Livestock trailers
  • Tractors
  • Skid Loaders
• Wire welding - aluminum and steel.
• Snow removal of truck and trailer lot.
• Maintaining cleanliness of shop and work areas.
• Mechanics will provide basic tools they need to utilize daily.
  • Specialty tools are provided by Iowa Select Farms
• Demeanor should always be positive and professional.
• Be friendly, positive, helpful, team-oriented and respectful to co-workers and management team.

Work Environment

• The environment of this position will change daily pending weekly schedule including doing work indoors and outdoors.
• This position may require some tasks to be performed in extreme outside weather conditions.
• The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
• While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations.
• The environment you will be working in may have nuisance levels of gases and dust, particularly in the winter months.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

• This is a full-time position that will typically require at least 40 hours a week.
• Additional availability may be required during staffing challenges.
• Occasional evening hours and weekend work may be required as the job duties demand.
• On call weekend and holidays may be required as job duties demand.
• Attendance is crucial. Be at work on scheduled days and be ready to drive by the start time given.

Travel

• Local travel might be required for this position through the utilization of a company vehicle.

Education, Experience And Other Qualifications

• Bilingual: Not required
• 2 years of applied experience in a diesel shop or degreed/education is required.
• Experience with shop mechanic tools is a requirement.
• A valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record is a requirement.
