Job description

Maintenance Mechanic

Location: Iowa (Des Moines)

Job Description Know, practice, and be in compliance with all safety rules and procedures. Maintain communication and teamwork to produce a product of the highest quality by the most effective process.

This position may require lifting up to 75 lbs. or more. Attendance is an essential function of this position. This position description is not intended to cover all aspects of the responsibilities of the position. Other duties may be assigned as necessary to carry out the responsibilities of this position.

Essential Functions
  • Must be capable of making mechanical repairs to the facility and its systems including fabrication, installation, alignment and adjustment of components, working to close tolerance.
  • Utilization of precision measuring equipment such as dial indicators, levels, micrometers, etc.
  • Includes welding of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
  • Installation and repair or steam/water piping systems, hydraulic/pneumatic piping, control and reservoir systems, air handling and atmospheric control systems, including ductwork.
  • Will perform all other facility work such as door, wall, floor and roof repair, building and equipment painting and all forms of carpentry work.
  • Will make repairs on rolling stock and molds, including mold plate changes and cleaning as required and assigned by supervisor.
  • Will be required to perform the duties of other classifications such as oiling, electrical or machinist work as directed by supervisor.
  • Report or correct, immediately all equipment malfunctions, unsafe equipment and acts, material revisions and product deviations to supervisor.
  • Keep a clean and safe work area throughout shift.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma and/or general education (GED); and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience that performs the essential functions of this position.
  • Must be thoroughly proficient in mechanical skills.
  • Must be capable of troubleshooting and repairing all breakdowns in a reasonable amount of time with minimal direction from supervisor.
  • Must be able to weld ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Personal Protective Equipment Required

Hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes.

Safety Requirements
  • Must follow safety rules and safe practices to prevent injury to self and others.
  • Must wear all required safety equipment and/or tools required for this position.

  • Report ALL ACCIDENTS to supervisor.
  • Get First-Aid Immediately for ALL injuries.
  • Follow instructions. Whenever in doubt, ASK!
  • Report unsafe conditions to supervisor.
  • Must wear proper clothes and shoes approved for this position.
  • Horseplay is forbidden.
  • No running on premises.
  • Know emergency evacuation routes, exits, and alarms.
  • Keep floors and work area clean and clear.
  • Smoking is allowed in designated areas only.
  • Use proper lifting and carrying procedures. Use your legs and your back. If object is too heavy ask for help.
