The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is seeking a Transportation Materials Technician 2 for the Materials Evaluation and Specification Unit (MESU) at the Rocky Hill Laboratory in Rocky Hill, CT. You will assist in inspection and testing of materials and structures used in transportation facility construction, with a focus on asphalt mixtures and their components.

Working full-time on-site, you will support the Transportation Materials Technician 3 and help ensure quality control

Qualifications

  • Four (4) years of experience in chemical and/or physical testing, analysis, or inspection of construction or maintenance materials.
  • Experience with extraction gradation, slump and air content tests for cement and concrete cylinders.
  • Substitution options include college training in natural sciences, construction technology, civil engineering or related fields (15 semester hours = 0.5 year, up to 2 years for an Associate's).
  • For state employees, one year of experience in materials testing at Transportation Technician level may substitute for General Experience.

THE ROLE

In this role you will assist the Transportation Materials Technician 3 within the Material Evaluation and Specification Unit (MESU), asphalt mixture area, regarding inspection and testing of materials and structures used in the construction of transportation facilities. Additionally, you will be responsible for testing and inspection of asphalt mixtures and their components.

PLEASE NOTE

This posting may be used to fill other Transportation Materials Technician 2 positions as needed. Other related roles and responsibilities will be assigned as needs of the Unit and section in the Materials Testing Laboratory.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Four (4) years of experience in chemical and/or physical testing, analysis, or inspection of construction or maintenance materials including independent performance of tests such as extraction gradation, slump and air content for cement and concrete cylinder tests.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

College training in natural sciences, construction technology, civil engineering or other related fields may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years for an Associate's degree.

For state employees one (1) year of experience in materials testing at the level of a Transportation Technician may be substituted for the General Experience.
