Drive Change, Build Community

At John Boner Neighborhood Centers, we believe in building community one individual at a time—and transportation is one of the most powerful tools we use to make that happen. Our Transportation Manager & Driver is both a frontline operator and behind-the-scenes strategist: transporting passengers safely and compassionately, while managing routes, supervising drivers, ensuring compliance, and maintaining a transportation system our community can rely on.

You'll be a trusted leader responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of JBNC Transportation Services, LLC, ensuring that our fleet, staff, and systems meet the highest standards of safety, accountability, and care. If you're passionate about logistics, leadership, and lifting up your neighbors—this role offers the chance to make a visible and lasting difference.

A Day in the Life

You begin your day with a safety inspection and morning route, transporting program participants across the Near Eastside with warmth, patience, and professionalism. You greet familiar riders—children heading to enrichment programs, seniors accessing resources, families making life-changing connections—and ensure everyone feels safe, respected, and supported.

Once you return to JBNC, your leadership duties kick in: updating route schedules using routing software, submitting required reports, reviewing maintenance logs, and coordinating with your team of drivers. You field questions from partner organizations, evaluate vendor bids for vehicle repairs, and coach team members on expectations and safety protocols. Your day is a blend of community service and operational excellence—never routine, always meaningful.

You Will Thrive in This Position If
  • You've spent 3-5 years behind the wheel as a bus driver and know what it takes to keep passengers safe and comfortable.
  • You bring at least 2 years of supervisory experience and enjoy mentoring, training, and helping a team grow.
  • You are deeply familiar with state and federal transportation regulations and DOT standards, and you're always in compliance.
  • You hold a valid CDL-B license with both "P" (Passenger) and "S" (School Bus) endorsements and maintain a clean driving record. Candidates without an "S" endorsement but enrolled in the class will still be considered.
  • You know how to use (or are eager to learn) tools like routing software, ETO, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams.
  • You can evaluate and select vendors, track preventive maintenance schedules, and keep meticulous maintenance logs.
  • You thrive when balancing documentation, route coordination, and hands-on work, managing multiple projects in a fast-paced setting.
  • You're physically capable of assisting riders in and out of the vehicle—including those using wheelchairs—and can push, lift, or sit for extended periods, even in tough weather.
  • You're flexible to work evenings, weekends, and split shifts based on community needs.
  • You believe deeply in the mission of JBNC, and your communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills reflect that daily.
Other Requirements

Upon hire, candidates must obtain:

  • DOT physical exam
  • TB test and Fingerprinting
  • Drug screening
  • CPR/First Aid certification (must maintain active certification)
  • Must submit to random drug and alcohol testing throughout employment
