The Transportation Manager will manage all Transportation Operations and bin placement throughout a large or multiple sub-regions, ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of materials to and from sites in accordance with company requirements.
Pay range and compensation package
Pay Rate: 115,000-125,000, Bonus Eligible.
Responsibilities
- Manage all Transportation operations for your region.
- Manage the team’s safety and DOT compliance, and ensure Sims University is completed on time.
- Hold weekly driver’s meetings, along with one-on-one meetings as needed.
- Review Teletrac Navman videos and alerts, and review findings with drivers in group and individual settings.
- Registration of new assets with the DMV, along with filing tax paperwork as needed; permitting, IFTA filing quarterly, 2290 filing annually, IRP filing annually, MCS 150 filing biennially, overweight permits, and/or working with our vendor TRC for these tasks & responsibilities.
- Handle any incidents or issues with trucking (broken windshields, scrap falling out of trailers, accidents, rollovers).
- Execution of capital expenditures.
- Review what is needed for replacement of assets approaching their end of life and work with commercial/operations for what is needed for the demand or growth of the business to keep up with requests.
- Work with Business Partners on CER’s, Capex, budget, spending, and forecasting large expenses.
- Handles compliance issues: my COI, MSA, DQ (personnel) files, DVIR logs.
- Handles transportation trade issues, payments to haulers via Ratelinx.
- Handles regional freight rate matrix and fuel surcharge.
- Communicates information to haulers and commercial, and enters it in SAI to reduce residual costs.
- Works with the national Transportation Management team to implement a competitive tender process to engage new contractors, ensuring that any terms of engagement are supported by an appropriate contract as required.
- Orders necessary items for the transportation department (AX) safety supplies, consumables, equipment, repairs, and inspections.
- Oversees Dispatcher and/or Transportation Coordinator and backs up as needed.
- Oversees fleet maintenance, emergency and routine repairs.
- Oversees annual federal requirements to be completed on all Sims assets.
- Effectively manages contractors' work as performed in accordance with contract requirements.
- Secures and maintains relationships with outside contractors to work with Sims to meet business demands.
- Manages and oversees both Union and Non-Union Sims drivers.
- Monitors freight movement, light load reporting, service levels, driver efficiencies, etc. in relation to our current NAM Transportation Dashboard through Power BI reporting.
- Maintains and improves customer service levels in accordance with business requirements to ensure internal and external customers are serviced in a timely manner.
- Actively works with the Operations Manager, Yard Managers, and external agents to facilitate timely, safe, and efficient load-out requirements in accordance with any bulk shipping and other operations where required.
- Communicate any industry knowledge/market intelligence to the Operations or Commercial Manager in a timely manner.
- Review slow-moving bins, bin presentation, and bin maintenance requirements and provide recommendations for alternate arrangements to the Commercial team as required.
- Work closely with our current NAM Transportation EHS Manager to comply with EHS standards monthly. CCVs, OBAs, Self-Inspections, corrective actions.
- Set up permitted loads as needed or outsource oversize loads to meet the needs of suppliers or operations.
- Support and recommend continuous improvement initiatives and foster compliance with quality requirements.
- Support and ensure team compliance with all Company policies, procedures, and initiatives.
