Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Transportation Manager to oversee our company’s transportation operations. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement of goods, managing transportation staff, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of logistics and supply chain principles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and monitor the day-to-day transportation operations.
  • Optimize transportation routes to improve delivery efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Manage a team of drivers, dispatchers, and logistics coordinators.
  • Oversee scheduling, routing, and tracking of vehicles and shipments.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local transportation laws and regulations (e.g., DOT, OSHA).
  • Maintain and track transportation metrics (e.g., on-time delivery, fuel usage, freight costs).
  • Collaborate with warehouse, procurement, and customer service teams to ensure seamless operations.
  • Select and manage relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, and other logistics service providers.
  • Handle transportation budgeting and prepare cost analysis reports.
  • Investigate and resolve transportation-related issues and complaints.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in transportation or logistics management.
  • Strong understanding of supply chain and logistics operations.
  • Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS) and fleet management software.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT and other transportation regulations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Skills:

  • Experience with route planning and fleet optimization software.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus.
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification is a plus.
  • Specialized transportation skills a plus.

Work Environment:

  • Office setting with regular visits to warehouses, distribution centers, or fleet facilities.
  • May require travel depending on company operations.
