Job summary

MDOT is seeking a Transportation Maintenance Worker to maintain state trunk-lines within the ROW in the North Region under supervision. You may operate heavy equipment and be trained for various operations, with potential assignments to other MDOT facilities.

Applicants must obtain a Commercial Learner's Permit at appointment and acquire a CDL Group A with N or X endorsement (no air brake restrictions) within 12 months. MDOT offers benefits and opportunities for growth.

• Maintain state trunk-lines within the right-of-way (ROW), North Region.

• May be trained to operate equipment used in maintenance operations.
• May perform duties in other MDOT regions/counties as needed.

Job description

Under the direction of a Transportation Maintenance Supervisor or a Transportation Maintenance Worker (TMW) 9, perform maintenance of state trunk-lines within the right-of-way (ROW) generally within the North Region geographical area. This position is required to participate in the TMW Work Element Program and may be trained to operate any piece of equipment used in a maintenance operation. This position may, at times, perform other assigned duties from other regions, counties, or Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) facilities to meet operational needs. Operate a vehicle or vehicle/trailer combination with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more (e.g., bucket truck, snowplow, etc.) when performing maintenance activities.

The "Salary" listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate at the entry (6) level through the maximum rate at the experienced (E8) level. Based on education and experience, candidates will be reviewed to determine what level they are qualified for.

One year of experience equivalent to a Transportation Maintenance Worker 6 or Laborer E6 with experience in roadway, roadside, bridge, or sign maintenance, or pavement marking.

Transportation Maintenance Worker E8

Two years of experience equivalent to a Transportation Maintenance Worker, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Maintenance Worker 7; or, one year of skilled trades experience at the E9 level.

To be considered for this position you must:

• Transportation Maintenance Worker Recruit: Possess a Commercial Learner's Permit upon appointment to the position. Continuing employment requires possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Group A with either an N or X endorsement and no air brake restrictions which must be obtained within 12 months of the date of hire into the position and must maintain throughout employment in the position.
• Transportation Maintenance Worker 6, 7, E8:Possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at the time of appointment to the position. Continuing employment requires possession of a CDL Group A with N or X endorsement and no air brake restrictions which must be obtained within 12 months from the date of hire into the position and maintained throughout employment in the position.
• Transportation Maintenance Worker E8: The MDOT Statewide Work Element Coordinator must approve satisfactory completion of the MDOT TMW Work Element training and certification program.
