Job summary

The State of Michigan is hiring Transportation Maintenance Worker positions in the Superior Region for a limited-term assignment from October to April. Responsibilities include maintaining state trunk lines and structures, road shoulders, and performing winter maintenance; operation of heavy equipment; and participation in the TMW program.

Overnight travel and variable shifts are required. Applicants must possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at hire.

Job Description

FILLING SEVERAL LIMITED-TERM WINTER MAINTENANCE POSITIONS THAT MAY LAST FROM OCTOBER TO APRIL, BUT WITH NO GUARANTEE.

This position performs maintenance of state trunk lines, structures, and right-of-ways in the Superior Region. Duties include, but are not limited to, performing all surface, roadside general maintenance, and winter maintenance activities, operating various types of equipment and participating in the Transportation Maintenance Worker (TMW) work element program. This position is required to travel to work sites throughout the Region, requiring overnight travel. Winter work schedule includes afternoon, night, and weekend shift assignments with scheduled and unscheduled overtime.

Position(s) will work full-time hours during the limited-term assignment

Operate a vehicle or vehicle/trailer combination with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more (e.g., dump truck, snowplow, etc.) when performing maintenance activities.

The "Salary" listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate at the entry (6) level through the maximum rate at the experienced (E8) level. Based on education and experience, candidates will be reviewed to determine what level they are qualified for.

No Specific Type Or Amount Of Experience Is Required.

Transportation Maintenance Worker 7

One year of experience equivalent to a Transportation Maintenance Worker 6 or Laborer E6 with experience in roadway, roadside, bridge, or sign maintenance, or pavement marking.

Transportation Maintenance Worker E8

Two years of experience equivalent to a Transportation Maintenance Worker, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Maintenance Worker 7; or, one year of skilled trades experience at the E9 level.

Possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at the time of hire.

Transportation Maintenance Worker E8

The MDOT Statewide Work Element Coordinator must approve satisfactory completion of the MDOT TMW Work Element training and certification program.

Some positions within this class series are assigned job duties that may require possession of a commercial Pesticide Applicators license in compliance with the Pesticide Control Act of 1976.
