Job summary

SA Recycling LLC seeks a Transportation Maintenance Supervisor for the East Point, GA yard. You will lead a fast-paced maintenance team, overseeing diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance of our fleet and heavy equipment in outdoor conditions.

Role combines hands-on mechanical work with strong administrative and leadership duties, including record-keeping, reporting, and ensuring safety and environmental standards are met.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's/associate preferred.
• 3+ years maintenance experience in the scrap metal or related industry.
• 3 years supervisory lead experience in fast-paced operations.
• ASE credentials, federal/state inspector certifications, Fleet Tire Service for OSHA compliance.
• Bilingual English & Spanish is a plus.
• Must pass background screening, physical exam, and drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Preventative Maintenance: schedule and perform routine inspections on tractors and equipment; check fluids, tires, lights, brakes, batteries.
• Diagnostic Repairs: troubleshoot mechanical issues using diagnostic tools to isolate problems in engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
• Repair Work: assist team in engine tune-ups, oil changes, brake replacements, suspension adjustments, and electrical repairs.
• Part Replacement: source, order, and install replacement components including tires, filters, belts, and hoses.
• Record Keeping: maintain maintenance logs, track parts, labor hours, and repair details in the in-house system.
• Reporting & Analytics: prepare performance reports and analyze maintenance data using Excel/Word.
• Compliance: enforce safety regulations, manufacturer specs, and environmental standards.
• Team Leadership: motivate, organize, and maintain a safety-first maintenance team.

Job description

SA Recycling is seeking a skilled high-performing Transportation Maintenance Supervisor for our Yard in East Point, GA. You will lead a fast-paced maintenance team and supervise the daily diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance of our fleet and heavy equipment. This role combines hands-on mechanical expertise with strong administrative and leadership capabilities.

This position will work outside in varying weather conditions, and SA Recycling strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

Core Responsibilities

• Preventative Maintenance: Schedule and perform routine inspections on tractor trailor trucks and equipment, checking fluid levels, tire pressure, lights, brakes, and batteries.
• Diagnostic Repairs: Troubleshoot mechanical issues using diagnostic tools to isolate problems in engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems
• Repair Work: Assist the team in executing engine tune-ups, oil changes, brake replacements, suspension adjustments, and electrical repairs
• Part Replacement: Source, order, and install replacement components including tires, filters, belts, and hoses
• Record Keeping: Maintain detailed maintenance logs, tracking parts, labor hours, and repair details in our in-house computer tracking system
• Reporting & Analytics: Utilize Microsoft Excel and Word to prepare performance reports and analyze maintenance data
• Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to safety regulations, manufacturer specifications, and environmental standards
• Team Leadership: Motivate, organize, and maintain a highly efficient, safety-first maintenance team

Required Skills & Technical Knowledge

• Mechanical Aptitude: Deep understanding of automotive and heavy equipment mechanics, circuits, and hydraulics
• Subsystem Expertise: Comprehensive understanding of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, PLC, and large motor subsystems
• Diagnostic Proficiency: Advanced skill in using specialized diagnostic tools to pinpoint complex vehicle issues
• Tool Proficiency: Mastery of a wide variety of hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment
• Technical Knowledge: Strong ability to read and interpret manufacturer service manuals and schematics
• Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to quality control, safety inspections, and documentation
• Physical & Environmental Ability: Capability to lift heavy components, work in confined spaces, and work outdoors in all types of weather
• Certifications : Standard Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) credentials, federal/state inspector certifications, and Fleet Tire Service for OSHA Compliance
• Language: Bilingual skills (English & Spanish) are a plus

Qualifications & Experience

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's or Associate degree in a related field preferred
• Industry Experience: 3+ years of maintenance experience in the scrap metal or related industry
• Supervisory Experience: 3 years of progressively responsible lead experience in fast-paced, diverse operations
• Certifications: Standard Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) credentials, federal/state inspector certifications, and Fleet Tire Service for OSHA Compliance
• Screening: Must pass a required background screening, physical examination, and drug screen
