Job summary

DLA Distribution New Cumberland is seeking a Transportation Assistant to plan, coordinate, and control shipments of material and equipment, including hazardous materials, to domestic and international destinations.

You will provide guidance to customers, finalize shipment paperwork, and manage cost-effective routing while utilizing automated systems for invoicing and reporting. This role requires US citizenship and security screening in a federal environment.

Qualifications

• Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in transportation/shipment planning or related field to perform duties effectively.
• Education Substitution: Education may be credited in limited instances per relevant GS/regulatory rules.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates and controls shipment of material and equipment.
• Prepares shipment documentation including hazardous materials.
• Provides advice and assistance to customers on all aspects of distribution functions.
• Provides status, resolves problems, and traces shipments on request.
• Determines economical routing and rates for domestic inbound and export shipments.
• Plans shipping dates and loading times for shipments to overseas and CONUS locations.
• Verifies invoices and computes transportation costs using automated systems.
