By joining our Engineering Support Branch as a Transportation Engineering Technologist I in Jefferson County,you’ll have the opportunity to collect and analyze materials used in highway construction projects in District5’s eight residing counties.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Learns to estimate project costs, recommends budgets and monitors operational budgets
  • Obtains asphalt and road materials for testing
  • Logs and records materials and testing data
  • Prepares and reviews project documentation to ensure projects are compliant with Cabinet and Federal standards
  • Prepares documentation for final payment to contractors
Ideal Candidate will have experience in:
  • Technical engineering experience
  • Construction experience

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, computer science, data science, geology, earth science, industrial technology, industrial drafting, design technology or construction technology. OR Graduate with an associate's degree in Engineering Technology with completion of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: None

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: 1. Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree OR an associate degree in an engineering field OR 2. High school OR 3. High school

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: 1. Must have three years of engineering-related experience with the first education option above; OR 2. Must have six years of engineering-related experience in which case related technical or vocational training will substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of four years with the second education option above; OR 3. Must have four years of bridge inspection experience under the supervision of a Qualified Inspection Team Leader, plus successful completion of a Federal Highway Administration approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course with the third education option above.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possess and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the office and in the field. Will be exposed to risks inherent to construction sites and other types of work zones which requires the following of safety procedures.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
