Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an inspector to conduct independent field inspections and prepare the corresponding reports in a timely manner. You will maintain and operate survey equipment, assist in preconstruction layout, and help train other inspectors in inspection and survey verification.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of related experience, with physical duties including lifting up to 50 lbs and exposure to outdoor

• Maintains inspection and testing equipment, completes daily time sheets and monthly mileage reports.
• Assists Project Managers in generating monthly estimates in Site Manager and closeout activities such as final quantities and As-Built Drawings.
• Performs construction verification surveys and operates survey equipment during these surveys.
• Is responsible for preconstruction layout activities and data collection.
• Ensures the collection of and/or collects samples and certifications relating to construction inspection activities.
• Assists with helping to train other inspectors in all areas of inspection and survey verification.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and one (1) year of experience that is related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence.

The physical demands for the essential functions involves frequent bending, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May require occasional exposure to noise. May require working outside of normal work schedules and weekends.
