Job summary

WSP USA invites motivated students to join our Transportation & Infrastructures team in Tucson for a part-time internship during the school year, with a path to a full-time role in summer 2027. You will work closely with senior staff on roadway, traffic, and utility projects, building hands-on experience through research, field tasks, and design support.

The program seeks undergraduates or graduates enrolled in ABET-accredited programs, with strong communication, teamwork, and technical writing

Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in an ABET-accredited college or related undergraduate program with a graduation date December 2027 or later.
  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Interest in roadway geometry, roadway safety, and traffic layout; eager to grow in WSP’s projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Able to take direction from leadership, mentors, and managers.
  • Authorized to work in the United States at internship start date.
  • Basic proficiency with office software, spreadsheets, and common tools.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
  • Learn fundamentals of Roadway, Traffic, and Utility engineering.
  • Support project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations.
  • Help prepare final design plans, provisions, and cost estimates.
  • Aid in collecting and maintaining project documentation and training.
  • Follow WSP’s Code of Conduct and safety policies.
  • Perform additional duties as required by business needs.

Job Description

Our Transportation & Infrastructures team is seeking a Part-Time (during school year) which will lead to a Full-Time (during summer 2027), Transportation Engineer Inters to work out of our Tucson office. This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program.

  • City of Tucson (COT): Roadway improvement projects, ADA accessibility upgrades, and transportation corridor studies.
  • Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT): Highway redesign and rehabilitation projects, traffic studies, and design concept reports.
Your Impact
  • Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal of developing technical, social, and ethical skills.
  • Learn basic principles of Roadway, Traffic and Utility Engineering.
  • Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
  • Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
  • Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
  • Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.
Who You Are
  • Actively enrolled in an accredited ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) college or related, Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of December 2027 or later.
  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Demonstrated interest in roadway geometry, roadway safety, and traffic layout, traffic studies or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using MicroStation - OpenRoads and AutoCAD - Civil 3D.
  • Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus.
