Job summary

Tetra Tech is seeking a Transportation Engineering Intern (Co‑op) based in Toledo, OH for the Fall 2026 term. You will support transportation infrastructure projects including roadway design, drainage analysis, traffic engineering, and utility coordination, working with seasoned engineers.

This role focuses on assisting with analyses, design documentation, and cross‑discipline coordination to deliver compliant, cost‑effective solutions.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and permitting of projects involving drainage analysis, roadway geometrics, traffic engineering, pedestrian mobility, utility design and coordination, and water quality design.
  • Perform conceptual and detailed engineering calculations and analyses.
  • Assist in the preparation of detailed engineering reports and supporting documentation.
  • Support the development of construction drawings, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Ensure standard engineering practices and appropriate documentation are incorporated into reports and design deliverables.
  • Interface and collaborate with other engineering disciplines and project team members.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute assigned tasks in a safe, timely, cost‑effective, and compliant manner.
  • Apply relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards to project work.

Position Summary

The Transportation Engineering Intern (Co-op) supports the Transportation team in the planning, design, and permitting of transportation infrastructure projects. This role assists with engineering analyses, preparation of design documents, and coordination across disciplines to deliver high‑quality, compliant, and cost‑effective solutions.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with MicroStation or OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform work in an office setting with extended periods of sitting and computer use.
  • Ability to occasionally visit project sites, which may involve walking on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials or equipment up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
Work Environment / Environmental Factors
  • Primarily office‑based environment with standard office equipment and moderate noise levels.
  • Occasional travel to field sites with exposure to varying weather conditions.
  • Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when visiting project sites, as required.

  • Employment Type: Temporary, Full-Time Co‑op (Fall 2026 Term).
  • Work Location: Toledo, OH (in‑office with potential limited field assignments).
  • Travel Requirements: Limited local travel for site visits, as needed.
