Job summary

Stantec's New England Transportation group is seeking a Summer 2027 intern in Vermont to gain real-world experience in transportation planning and design.

You will work with experienced practitioners, support project teams, and learn to develop plans, quantity take-offs, and cost estimates while potentially visiting field sites.

Qualifications

  • Must be a college student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • Previous internship or co-op experience is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; punctual and detail oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project teams with studies, memos, reports, spreadsheets and graphs.
  • Learn to develop plans, quantify up to take-off, and cost estimating for VT and New England projects.
  • May perform field visits to gather data for projects.

Stantec's New England Transportation group is looking for an intern in Vermont for Summer 2027!

We are looking for an individual that is passionate about improving our communities through the thoughtful planning and design of transportation systems and infrastructure. This person will use learn about enhancing multimodal connections, prioritizing equity and accessibility, and making roadways and bridges more adaptive and resilient to climate change. This role is an exciting opportunity for an individual looking to work collaboratively as part of a project team and gain a better understanding of the project development process for transportation projects of varying scale and complexity.

Your Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • May assist project teams and administrative staff by preparing or compiling studies, memos, reports, spreadsheets and graphs, drawings, calculations, research and other tasks in support of various transportation projects.

  • Work as part of a team on projects in Vermont and New England, learning how to develop plans, quantity take-off, and cost estimating. As part of a design team, there will be opportunities to learn from current professionals at varying career levels.

  • May include some field visits assisting with data gathering for various projects.

  • Other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned to support the team.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Must have good organizational and time management skills, be punctual, reliable, detail oriented, and capable of taking initiative and working independently when needed.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills in both office and virtual environments.

  • Microsoft Office experience is a plus.

  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D, MicroStation and/or OpenRoads Designer, ArcGIS, and/or Adobe Creative Suite software is a plus.

  • Willingness to perform field visits, as needed.

Education and Experience
  • Must be a college student working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.

  • Previous internship or co-op experience in similar type work or office environment is a plus.

Pay Range
  • $23.47 - $34.50 Hourly
Pay Transparency

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Benefits Summary

Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
