Job summary

The Transportation Engineer Trainee position is based at Connecticut DOT Headquarters in Newington, supporting the Project Controls Unit's Cost Estimating section. You will work with the AASHTOWare Project suite to assist cost estimating and asset tracking, while undergoing formal training.

The program includes training to prepare estimates for smaller projects, account management, and coordinating enhancements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required (or PE/EIT licensure may substitute).
• Valid motor vehicle operator's license required and must be maintained.
• Experience with software implementation and adaptation to specific needs.
• Proficiency with computer-aided design software (MicroStation) and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
• Ability to work independently and present complex information to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Provide support for cost estimating and asset tracking using the AASHTOWare Project suite.
• Receive training to prepare engineer's estimates for smaller projects.
• Manage user accounts and coordinate software enhancements.
• Develop training materials and deliver training as needed.
• Advance in the program with promotions to Transportation Engineer 1 and 2 after the specified years.

After one year, successful trainees are promoted to Transportation Engineer 1, with further advancement to Transportation Engineer 2 after two additional years.
