By joining our Drainage Branch as a Transportation Engineer Specialist in Franklin County, you'll have the opportunity to perform complex engineering work in the planning, design, construction and maintenance of highways and review & approve drainage engineering plans.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To The Following

• Provide technical expertise for project teams through all stages of drainage design.
• Interpret, write and recommend reports, correspondence and technical papers for drainage design compliance.
• Coordinate with other state, federal and local agencies.
• Provide review of drainage design software for implementation into the drainage design development.
  
  

Ideal Candidate Will Have Experience In

• Ability to communicate well with others both through oral and written communications.
• Ability to organize work activities for all projects.
• Knowledge of computer software required to perform job tasks (Excel, Word, MS CONNECT, ORD, etc).
• Knowledge of Hydrologic and Hydraulic Software to perform drainage reviews (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY-8, etc).

Additional Information: Some travel may be required for this position (within Kentucky) and a major portion of time will be spent sitting at a desk in front of a computer.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: See Special Requirements.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have four years of engineering experience in addition to that required for licensure as a Professional Engineer.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience. Graduate work in engineering beyond a master's degree will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must be licensed as a professional engineer by the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Engineers and Land Surveyors OR must be licensed in another state with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering license from the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Engineers and Land Surveyors within the employee's initial six month probationary period. Engineering decisions recommended by individuals without a Kentucky Professional Engineering License must be approved by a KRS Chapter 322 Licensed Professional Engineer until licensure is obtained. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Working Conditions
