By joining our Drainage Branch as a Transportation Engineer Specialist in Franklin County, you'll have the opportunity to perform complex engineering work in the planning, design, construction and maintenance of highways and review & approve drainage engineering plans.
Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To The Following
- Provide technical expertise for project teams through all stages of drainage design.
- Interpret, write and recommend reports, correspondence and technical papers for drainage design compliance.
- Coordinate with other state, federal and local agencies.
- Provide review of drainage design software for implementation into the drainage design development.
Ideal Candidate Will Have Experience In
- Ability to communicate well with others both through oral and written communications.
- Ability to organize work activities for all projects.
- Knowledge of computer software required to perform job tasks (Excel, Word, MS CONNECT, ORD, etc).
- Knowledge of Hydrologic and Hydraulic Software to perform drainage reviews (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY-8, etc).

Additional Information: Some travel may be required for this position (within Kentucky) and a major portion of time will be spent sitting at a desk in front of a computer.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: See Special Requirements.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have four years of engineering experience in addition to that required for licensure as a Professional Engineer.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience. Graduate work in engineering beyond a master's degree will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must be licensed as a professional engineer by the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Engineers and Land Surveyors OR must be licensed in another state with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering license from the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Engineers and Land Surveyors within the employee's initial six month probationary period. Engineering decisions recommended by individuals without a Kentucky Professional Engineering License must be approved by a KRS Chapter 322 Licensed Professional Engineer until licensure is obtained. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in the office and in the field. Will be exposed to risks inherent to construction sites which require the following of safety procedures.
