A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT) invites a Transportation Engineer Intern (STEM) to join our Herndon, VA office for the 2027 internship period.

This paid, full-time role runs May–August 2027 with potential to transition to a Full-Time Junior Engineer upon graduation. The intern will assist Project Managers and team leaders, supporting regulatory reviews, cost estimates, data management, and report preparation across civil/transportation tasks while gaining mentorship from seasoned

Qualifications

• Must be pursuing a Bachelor or Associate Degree in Civil/Transportation Engineering or related field.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Self-motivated, detail oriented and technically capable.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Support project tasks including regulatory requirements/reviews, cost estimates, research and procurement support.
• Perform data entry, management, evaluation and presentation.
• Assist in preparing reports, plans and specifications for clients.
• May perform field assignments as needed.
• Work under supervision of Project Managers and Team Leaders.

A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT) is seeking a highly motivated and diverse Transportation Engineer Intern (STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) to join us in our Herndon, VA office for the 2027 internship period. This is a paid full-time position with anticipated duration from May through August 2027 (flexible) and has the potential to transition into a Full-Time Junior Engineer Role upon graduation. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Project Managers and Team Leaders with partnerships with other engineering staff.

As an active, socially responsible, and tight-knit community, we are looking for top talent to join us in our Herndon, VA office.

• Support various project tasks including regulatory requirements/reviews, cost estimates, research, procurement support, etc;
• Perform data entry, management, evaluation, and presentation;
• Support the preparation of reports, plans, and specifications for clients;
• May work on field assignments as needed;
• Will be supported by leaders, mentors, and teammates; and
• Perform other related duties and responsibilities as necessary
• Must be at least 18 years old;
• Pursuing Bachelor or Associates Degree in Civil/Transportation Engineering or related field;
• Minimum GPA of 3.0;
• Has excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Possesses solid technical and problem-solving skills;
• Self-motivated, detail oriented person;
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Power Point); and
• Honest, fun, hard-working and ready to learn and grow.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with engineering software applications (AutoCAD, MathCAD, Bentley Microstation, etc.) is preferred but not required.
