Transportation Engineer II
Salary Grade B24 $65,104 - $106,634
Performs complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development
and design, construction, transportation and traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable
federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials
and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are
referred to the supervisor.

Transportation Engineer III
Salary Grade B25 $69,572 - $114,099
Performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning,
project development and design, construction, transportation and traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance
with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with
governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set
objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Transportation Engineer IV
Salary Grade B26 $76,530 - $129,430
Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning,
project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance
with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with
governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct
accountability for the work product.

Transportation Engineer II
-
Oversees and performs traffic engineering studies to recommend solutions for high accident locations, to warrant traffic
signals and speed zones and to determine capacity and channelization of the highways.
- Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates
and contracts.
- Coordinates traffic engineering studies and traffic counts.
- Develops and reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans.
- Develops traffic engineering and traffic management system policies, procedures and standards.
- Drives or travels to project and work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide
technical support.
- Interprets manuals and required guidelines for traffic operations.
- Investigates and responds to public complaints on traffic signals, signs, railroad crossings, pavement markings, traffic
management systems or other traffic related items.
- Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.
- Performs and coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submission, special
specifications or special provisions.
- Reviews and revises schematics, PS&E, project designs for traffic control devices, signs, markings and detours.
- Reviews traffic engineering studies, warranting of traffic signals and speed zones.
- Writes reports and specifications.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Transportation Engineer III
All of the above and:

Reviews sign schematics and in-house and consultant plans and projects.

Transportation Engineer IV
All of the above and:

Coordinates traffic engineering studies and traffic counts.
- Develops traffic engineering policies, procedures and standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education (All Levels): Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

Experience: Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent. Related graduate level education may
be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
- Transportation Engineer II: 5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
- Transportation Engineer III: 6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience
- Transportation Engineer IV: 7 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Licensed Prof Engineer*

If performing underwater bridge inspections: Must have Open Water Diver certification.

For Bridge Inspection: Must have completed a comprehensive training course based on the Bridge Inspector's Training Manual or NICET Level III or IV certification in Bridge Safety Inspection within (1) year of date of hire.

*Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.

Transportation Engineer II:
- Applicable governmental laws, rules and regulations specific to area of responsibility for safeguarding information and
information technology related systems
- Construction, operation and maintenance of traffic control devices
- Applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities
- Design and plan preparation methods and requirements
- Geometric design relationships to traffic operations, maintenance and construction
- Speaking to present images and ideas in a clear, concise, organized, and interesting manner to optimize audience
understanding and keep the group focused

- Planning, coordinating and handling multiple projects within area of responsibility to meet short- and long-term deadlines

Transportation Engineer IV:
Greater skill in the above

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:


- Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files or small tools

- This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical.
- Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject
to random drug testing.
