Position Overview
The Traffic Engineering Department seeks a highly motivated Transportation Engineer to improve safety on state highways through designing safety projects such as traffic signals, beacons, illumination, striping, signing, and Intelligent Transportation Systems. The ideal candidate will think creatively to solve safety challenges and thrive in a fast-paced environment that tests prioritization and social skills.
Salary Range
Transportation Engineer II (B25): $80,704 - $114,099
Transportation Engineer III (B26): $89,755 - $129,430
Transportation Engineer IV (B27): $98,730 - $142,374
The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the right to determine the appropriate level based on experience, education, skills, and business needs.
Minimum Salary: $80,740
Maximum Salary: $142,374
Pay Basis: Yearly

Location: Corpus Christi District Headquarters, 1701 S Padre Island Drive, Corpus Christi, TX 78416
Travel: Yes, approximately 5%
Shift: Day, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm

Performs complex transportation engineering tasks in areas like planning, project development, design, construction, and operations, ensuring compliance with laws, policies, and standards. Regular contact with government officials and private entities. Works independently, escalating issues as needed.
Includes advanced engineering design, transportation planning, data analysis, and project management, including overseeing consultants and managing complex projects. Provides technical assistance and reviews traffic management systems and plans, ensuring safety and efficiency.
Note: Out-of-state PE license holders must obtain Texas licensure within six months and agree to do so.
